Optics & Photonic News editor Stewart Wills named 2023 Optica Treasurer’s Award recipient

WASHINGTON–Pick up a copy of Optics and Photonics News, and Stewart Wills’ commitment to excellence is apparent. Well-researched, meticulously written and edited articles on cutting edge topics fill the pages of OPN, many of which are the direct contributions of Wills—and all are impacted by his example.
Optica (formerly OSA), Advancing and Photonics Worldwide, is pleased to honor Wills with the 2023 Treasurer’s Award. The award recognizes an employee who contributes significantly to organizational excellence, promotes and enacts innovative solutions, and exemplifies inspirational leadership. Since Wills joined Optica in 2013 as Senior Editor and Content Developer for OPN, he has displayed the “long-term commitment to excellence in visual design, communication, and impact.” He was recognized during the Optica Awards Ceremony at FIO+LS.
“Stewart’s vision for OPN has resulted in a high-quality, engaging monthly magazine,” said Liz Rogan, CEO of Optica. “His tireless dedication to excellence in OPN—and Optica as a whole—sets an example for all of us working for and representing Optica.”
Before joining OPN, Wills spent 14 years as an editor for Science, beginning as an online editor and eventually becoming the Editor Director, Web and New Media. He holds a PhD from Colombia University in Geological Sciences, a BS in Geology from Rutgers University, and a BA in English from the University of California at Los Angeles.
