In this webinar hosted by the Optical Biosensors Technical Group, Andrea Cusano will present an overall picture pertaining to the “Lab on Fiber Technology” vision. Cusano will illustrate the main milestones set along the technological roadmap aimed at achieving the ultimate objective: the development of flexible, multifunctional plug & play fiber optic platforms designed for life science applications with a major focus on precision medicine.

Main achievements in the identification of nano-fabrication strategies properly working onto not conventional substrates as in the case of optical fibers will be discussed. Perspectives and challenges that lie ahead will be highlighted with a special focus on full spatial control at nano-scale and high throughput production scenarios. The rapid progress at the fabrication stage has opened new avenues toward the development of multifunctional plug & play platforms, which will be discussed with particular emphasis on their new functionalities and unparalleled figures of merit, demonstrating the potential of this powerful technology for advanced diagnostics and improved therapies.

All the achievements reviewed and discussed in this webinar will clearly demonstrate that “Lab on Fiber Technology” is much more than a simple vision, featuring in the next future a central role not in scenarios related to diagnostics and monitoring for biomedical applications.
