Castor Optics expands its Wideband Multimode Circulator series with the WMC4H1

Montreal, Canada—Castor Optics, in collaboration with its strategic partner Thorlabs, just launched the latest product in its Wideband Multimode Circulator family: the WMC4H1. WMCs are three-port devices featuring high-efficiency multimode transfer and transmission. This versatile component allows for efficient and robust multimode illumination and collection through a single fiber probe. Castor Optics designed this multimode circulator by exploiting the intrinsic propagation properties of asymmetrical couplers. The WMC series enables an enhanced detection sensitivity for biomedical imaging, defense & security, communication, or quantum and industrial sensing applications.

This new addition to the WMC series will enable users to reach new potentials. Based on a 400 μm core fiber, this new product increases the sensitivity of isotropic modalities such as fluorescence sensing or spectroscopy. It also opens the door to new applications in neuroscience with increased demands for fiber-based photometry and optogenetics systems.

When asked to comment about this novel technology, Castor’s Co-Founder and WMC co-inventor Nicolas Godbout said: "The Wideband Multimode Circulators allow to efficiently illuminate and probe the light on a sample surface. They seemingly break the reciprocity law of optics by exploiting the properties of multimode light propagation. At Castor, we don't break the laws of physics, but we know how to bend them!"
